Feeding the Ducks by E. A. Hornel Art Print

Two girls at the edge of a pond with ducks coming towards them, painted by E. A. Hornel in 1918 in colour laid on until the canvas is almost a surface you could feel.

Hornel used the same models over and over — local Kirkcudbright children — and photographed them first, which was unusual and slightly scandalous at the time. He painted from the photographs in the studio at Broughton House, where his garden ran down to the River Dee.
