Girls among bluebells in a Galloway wood, painted by E. A. Hornel in 1906 in colour so dense the flowers and the dresses stop being separate things.

Hornel had been one of the Glasgow Boys and painted this stretch of Kirkcudbright woodland for the rest of his life. The eighteen months he spent in Japan in 1893 left him with a taste for high horizons and pattern over depth, and he never went back to conventional space.

Printed to order on heavyweight archival paper with a narrow white border that keeps the painting's own proportions. Framed in black, wood or white, or unframed for your own frame. Shipped worldwide.
