Farm buildings under a wide sky, painted where they stood. E. A. Walton was one of the Glasgow Boys who spent his twenties working outdoors in Scottish villages.

He was at Cockburnspath with Guthrie and at Brig o' Turk before that, part of the small group who decided that the truth of a place mattered more than a finished studio surface. Walton had the best watercolour touch of any of them.

He later became President of the Royal Scottish Water Colour Society, but the outdoor years are the ones worth hanging.
