Edinburgh Castle seen from below, up the narrow gap of the Vennel, painted by Horatio McCulloch in 1845.
The viewpoint still exists and is still one of the best in the city: a flight of steps off the Grassmarket that frames the castle rock between tenement walls. McCulloch went on to define the romantic Highland landscape for a whole century — his Glencoe hangs in Kelvingrove — but he began with the city he lived in.
Printed to order on heavyweight archival paper with a narrow white border that keeps the painting's own proportions. Framed in black, wood or white, or unframed for your own frame. Shipped worldwide.
