Apples and a jar on a white cloth, built out of flat planes of colour with the outlines left showing — S. J. Peploe working through Cézanne in a Scottish idiom.
He kept the same objects in a cupboard and used them again and again, rearranging rather than replacing. From about 1910 he abandoned portraiture almost entirely, and the still lifes became a single long experiment in how much colour a small canvas will hold.
Printed to order on heavyweight archival paper with a narrow white border that keeps the painting's own proportions. Framed in black, wood or white, or unframed for your own frame. Shipped worldwide.
